3、ngspostoccupancyevaluationswereheldandbuilding’sperformancewasrevealed.AlsointheNetherlandsduringthelastyearsseveralnewconceptsweredevelopedforsustainableschools.Thisisaninterestingtopicasmanyofthoseschoolshadproblemsconcerningenergyefficiency,indoorairqualityandtherma
4、lcomfort.Inthecaseofsustainableschoolsmucheffortwentintothedesignprocessoftheschoolstotrytofindbettersolutionstofacetheproblemsofthetraditionaldesigns.Thisresultedindifferentsolutionconcepts,whichraisesthequestionwhicharebetterschoolconcepts.Fromliteraturethreeevaluati
5、onsfromtheUKandoneoverviewof5sustainableeducationalbuildingsfromtheNetherlandsaregiven,whichshowthatsustainableeducationalbuildingsarenotalwayswithoutflaws.InthepapertwoofthefirstDutchsustainableelementaryschoolsarecomparedwith9moretraditionalschoolsoftheNetherlandstoc
6、oncludewhetherthesustainableschoolsperformbetterthantraditionalschools.INTRODUCTIONPresentlysustainabilitybecomesanecessityaseffectsofGlobalwarmingbecomemoreclearly.Itisimportanttostartearlywiththeeducationalaspectsofthenecessarychangeinbehaviorandthinking,sustainables
7、choolscouldplayanimportantrole.Thewholeconceptofasustainableschoolbuildingisbasedonprinciplesofsustainabledevelopmentwhichdealwiththelimitedavailabilityofnaturalresources,theinterdependencewithnature,thefundamentalsaspectsofinterdependencewithnature,thefundamentalsaspe
