3、vehicledynamicbehaviourwhichisdifferentinmanyaspectsfromthatofpassengercarsorotherroadvehicles:thewheelloaderhasalargepitchinertiacomparedtoitsmass,theaxleloadsvaryconsiderablywithloadingcondition,andthevehicleusesanarticulatedframesteeringsystemratherthanwheelsteering.Theseissues

4、mustallbeconsideredinthedesignprocessforawheelloadersuspension.Theeffectsofsuspendedaxlesonridevibrationsareanalysedbysimulatingamultibodywheelloadermodelwithandwithoutaxlesuspension.Resultsfromthesimulationsshowthatlongitudinalandverticalaccelerationlevelsaregreatlyreducedwithaxl

5、esuspension,butthatthedecreaseinlateralaccelerationissmaller.Byreducingtherollstiffnesslateralaccelerationscanbefurtherreduced,althoughthismaynotbefeasiblebecauseofrequirementsonhandlingstability.Thepitchingoscillationofthevehiclehasalsobeenstudiedasthisisknowntohavealargeinfluenc

6、eonridecomfort.Ananalyticalmodelisusedtostudytheeffectoffrontandrearsuspensioncharacteristicsonthepitchingresponseofthewheelloader,showingthatastifferrearsuspensionisfavourableforreducingpitchingbutalsothatasimilareffectisattainablewithastifferfrontsuspension.Resultsarecomparedtom

7、ultibodysimulationswhichshowthesametrendasanalyticalpredictions.Byincludingalinearisedrepresentationofahydropneumaticsuspensioninthemodels,itisalsoshownthatfavourabledynamicbehaviourcanbemaintainedwhenthevehicleisloadedbyutilisingthefactthatsuspensionstiffnessisincreasingwithaxlel
