2、hanefficientrealizationandasmallrulebasethatcanbeeasilyimplementedinexistingindustrialcontrollerswasproposed.Itwasdemonstratedinbothsoftwaresimulationandhardwaretestinanindustrialsettingthatthefuzzylogiccontroller(FLC)ismuchmorecapablethanthecurrenttemperaturecontroller.Thisincl
3、udescompensatingforthermomasschangesinthesystem,dealingwithunknownandvariabledelays,operatingatverydifferenttemperaturesetpointswithoutreturningetc.Itisachievedbyimplementing,inFLC,aclassicalcontrolstrategyandanadaptationmechanismtocompensateforthedynamicchangesinthesystem.Thepr
4、oposedFLCwasappliedtotemperaturecontrolofcontinuouslystirredtankreactor(CSTR)andsignificantimprovementsinthesystemperformanceareobserved.INTRODUCTIONWhilemoderncontroltheoryhasmademodestinroadintopractice,fuzzylogiccontrolhasbeenrapidlygainingpopularityamongpracticingengineers.T
5、hisincreasedpopularitycanbeattributedtothefactthatfuzzylogiccontrolprovidesapowerfulvehiclethatallowsengineerstoincorporatehumanreasoninginthecontrolalgorithm.Asopposedtomoderncontroltheory,fuzzylogicdesignisnotbasedonthemathematicalmodeloftheprocess.7Thecontrollerdesignedusingf
6、uzzylogicimplementshumanreasoningthathasbeenprogrammedintofuzzylogiclanguage(membershipfunctions,ruleandtheruleinterpretation).Itisinterestingtonotethatthesuccessoffuzzylogiccontrolislargelyduetoawarenesstoitsmanyindustrialapplications.Industrialinterestsinfuzzylogiccontrolasevi
