3、centisdevotedtolistening,30percenttospeaking,only16percenttoreading,andamere9percenttowriting.Theimportanceoflisteningcanbeseenassimpleasthecommonsensethatifonedoesnotgraspwhatisheard,thenonehasnogroundtocommunicate.Thus,listeningcomprehensionistheprerequisitemeasureoflan

4、guageproficiency.Yet,developinglisteningskillsisnevereasyforthosewholearnaforeignlanguagewithoutgoingtotheforeigncountrieswherethetargetlanguageisspoken.Ittakeslittleinsighttoseetheimportanceoflanguageenvironmenteitherasamajorbarrierofacatalystinlisteningcomprehension.Its

5、eemsnaturalforchildrentostartspeakingtheirmothertongueassoonastheystartspeaking;itisalsocommonforscholarswhospendyearslearningaforeignlanguageandareabletoreadandwritewellyetdoingverypoorlyinoralcommunication.Thedifferencebetweenthetwoliesinthelanguageenvironmentasthechild
