3、ghspeedprocessdata.Thisspecialpurposedesigncanbeanexpensiveproposition.Powerfulmini-andmainframecomputersareusedtocombinethedataacquisitionwithotherfunctionssuchascomparisonsbetweentheactualoutputandthedesirableoutputvalues,andtothendecideonthecontrolact

4、ionwhichmustbetakentoensurethattheoutputvariablesliewithinpre-setlimits.Thecomputingpowerrequiredwilldependuponthetypeofprocesscontrolsystemimplemented.Softwarerequirementsforcarryingoutproportional,ratioorthreetermcontrolofprocessvariablesarerelativelyt

5、rivial,andmicrocomputerscanbeusedtoimplementsuchprocesscontrolsystems.Itwouldnotbepossibletousemanyofthecurrentlyavailablemicrocomputersfortheimplementationofhighspeedadaptivecontrolsystemswhichrequiretheuseofsuitableprocessmodelsandconsiderableon-linema

6、nipulationofdata.Microcomputerbaseddataloggersareusedtocarryoutintermediatefunctionssuchasdataacquisitionatcomparativelylowspeeds,simplemathematicalmanipulationsofrawdataandsomeformsofdatareduction.Thefirstgenerationofdataloggers,withoutanyprogrammableco

7、mputingfacilities,wereusedsimplyforslowspeeddataacquisitionfromuptoonehundredchannels.Alltheacquireddatacouldbepunchedoutonpapertapeorprintedforsubsequentanalysis.Suchhardwireddataloggersarebeingreplacedbythenewgenerationofdataloggerswhichincorporatemicr

8、ocomputersandcanbeprogrammedbytheuser.Theyofferanextremelygoodmethodofcollectingtheprocessdata,usingstandardizedinterfaces,andsubsequentlyperformingthenecessarymanipulationstoprovidetheinformationofinteresttotheprocessoper
