2、tiveactionthatcanadjusttheprocessaccordingly.ThePIDcontrollercalculation(algorithm)involvesthreeseparateparameters;theProportional,theIntegralandDerivativevalues.TheProportionalvaluedeterminesthereactiontothecurrenterror,theIntegraldeterminesthereactionbasedonthesumofrecen

3、terrorsandtheDerivativedeterminesthereactiontotherateatwhichtheerrorhasbeenchanging.Theweightedsumofthesethreeactionsisusedtoadjusttheprocessviaacontrolelementsuchasthepositionofacontrolvalveorthepowersupplyofaheatingelement.By"tuning"thethreeconstantsinthePIDcontrolleralg

4、orithmthePIDcanprovidecontrolactiondesignedforspecificprocessrequirements.Theresponseofthecontrollercanbedescribedintermsoftheresponsivenessofthecontrollertoanerror,thedegreetowhichthecontrollerovershootsthesetpointandthedegreeofsystemoscillation.Someapplicationsmayrequire

5、usingonlyoneortwomodestoprovidetheappropriatesystemcontrol.Thisisachievedbysettingthegainofundesiredcontroloutputstozero.APIDcontrollerwillbecalledaPI,PD,PorIcontrollerintheabsenceoftherespectivecontrolactions.PIcontrollersareparticularlycommon,sincederivativeactionisverys
