2、ngtheriskexposureaninstitutionfaceswhenitusesoutsidefirmsfortechnology.ThroughtheFederalFinancialInstitutionsExaminationCouncil(FFIEC),theregulatorsissuedthisguidanceonkeymanagementissueswhenoutsourcingtechnology.Theseissuesincluderiskassessment,serviceproviderselection,contractt
3、ermsandoversightofoutsourcingarrangements.Theguidanceisintendedtoassistfinancialinstitutionsthatareincreasinglyrelyingonoutsidefirmsfortechnology-relatedproductsandservicestosupportanarrayofbankingfunctions.Institutionsofallsizesareusingtheseproductsandservices,astechnologygrowsm
4、orecomplexanddynamic,creatingagreaterimpetustooutsource.Inaddition,theemergenceofnewstartupservicecompanieswithlimitedexperience,resourcesandknowledgeoftheregulatedfinancialservicesenvironmentheightenstheimportanceofeffectiverisk-managementpracticesatthefinancialinstitution.Insti
5、tutionsandtheircustomerscanachievebenefitsthroughoutsourcingofproductsandservices.However,responsibilityformanagingtherisksassociatedwiththoseproductsoractivitiescannotbeoutsourced.Financialinstitutionsshouldensurethatanappropriaterisk-managementprocessisinplacetoidentify,measure
