5、context．InHalliday’sopinion，thesituationalcontextsincludethesetting，thewayoftalking，andparticipants．ButHymesdividesitintoeightelements：setting，role，function，notion，style，stressandintonation，grammar，vocabularyandlanguageaids．Thosefactorsaffecteachotheranddecidewhichlanguageformisappropriate．The

6、situationalcontextandsocioculturalcontextcan’tbeisolatedfromeachother．Incertainsocioculturalcontext，peoplemustobeytheparticularcommunicativeruleswhentheyuseacertainlanguage．Andinacertainsituationalcontext，peopleshouldnotonlypayattentiontothesocialcommunicationrulesbutalsoadjustthemselvesaccord

7、ingtothefactorsofthesituationalcontext．Thatis，thesituationalcontextandsocioculturalcontextaffecteachotherandarecomplementarytoeachother．Ⅱ．Thelanguagecontextandthecommunicativecompetence“Competence”isacentralissueinlinguistics，whetherint
