2、MechanicalEngineers(ASME)wasorganizedin1880asaneducationalandtechnicalsocietyofmechanicalengineers.AtthattimeinAmericanindustrialhistory,mechanicalengineeringwasgrowinginsizeandimportance,andthenumberofmechanicalengineerswasincreasing.Morethanonehundredyearslater,theSoci
3、etycontinuestofocusonmechanicalengineering.Now,however,theSocietyhasexpandedfarbeyondtheUnitedStatesandNorthAmericaandisdesignatedASMEInternational.Withamembershipof125,000andastaffof400in10officesacrosstheUnitedStates,ASMEisamajorforceinthetechnicalworld.InadditiontoCod
4、esandStandards,currentASMEactivitiesinclude:(a)conductingconferences,exhibitsandregularmeetingsoflocalchapterstokeeppracticingmechanicalengineersuptodateonnewtechnology;(b)publishingtechnicaljournals,books,technicalreportsandmagazinesonwww.bzfxw.commechanicalengineering;
5、(c)providingshortcoursesoncurrenttechnicaldevelopmentsandASMEcodesandstandards.(d)advisingfederalandstategovernmentontechnology-relatedpublicpolicies.ASMECODES&STANDARDSASMEInternationalistheleadingdeveloperofcodesandstandardsassociatedwiththeart,science,andpracticeofmec
6、hanicalengineering.Therearecurrentlynearly600ASMEcodesandstandardsinprint.TheCodesandStandardsactivityinvolvesmorethan4,000individuals,mostlyengineersandrelatedscientists,butnotnecessarilymembersoftheSociety.Thecodesandstandardsareusedinover100countriesthroughouttheworld
