3、homalsoholdUniversityposts.AcrossboththeArtsandtheSciences,Oxfordresearchconsistentlyrankstopbothnationallyandinternationally.Aswellasbeingintheforefrontofscientific,medicalandtechnologicalachievement,theUniversityhasstronglinkswithresearchinstitutionsandindust
4、rialconcernsbothintheUnitedKingdomandoverseas.TheUniversityisincomefromexternallyfundedresearchgrantsandcontractsin1996-7totaledover￡107million.TheUniversity’sgreatagealsoallowsitsteachingstaffandresearchstudentstodrawonaheritageofmagnificentlibraryandmuseumcol
5、lections.StudentsworkingforhigherdegreesareanimportantandvaluedpartofOxfordUniversity.Theycurrentlymakeupoveraquarterofthetotalstudentbodyof15,641,drawnbytheexcellentfacilitiesforresearch,whichtheUniversitycanoffer;thereforetheproportionofgraduatestudentsisincr
6、easing.Inallthesefields,Oxfordattractsscholarsfrommanypartsoftheworldtojoinitsteachingandresearchstaff,andalsovaluesimportantroleofoverseasgraduatestudents(approximatelyonethirdofthetotalgraduatebody)inprovidingintellectualstimulationandcreatingandmaintainingac
