3、nunciationsofcorruptioningovernmentofficialsandhisdefenseofhistoricrights.AftertheRevolution,Henrywasaleaderoftheanti-federalistsinVirginiawhoopposedtheUnitedStatesConstitution,fearingthatitendangeredtherightsoftheStates,aswellasthefreedomsofindividuals.PatrickHenrywasoneoftheleadinglightsoftheAm
4、ericanRevolution,avoicethatwouldnotbesilenceduntilAmericanswerefreeandcouldgovernthemselves.Hewasbornin1736,inHanoverCounty,Virginia.Hewaseducatedathome,wherehelearnedLatin,amongotherthings.Hetriedtobeabusinessowner,butthebusinesswentbankrupt.Hestudiedlawandearnedhislawlicensein1760.Hemadeanamefo
5、rhimselfinwinningthefamedParson'sCause,duringwhichhearguedthatakingwhowouldvetoalawpassedbyalocallyelectedlegislaturewas"atyrantwhoforfeitstheallegianceofhissubjects."Thiswasthebeginningofhisstruggletoensureindependenceforthe13Colonies.HenrywaselectedtotheVirginiaHouseofBurgesses,oneofthecolonies
6、'firstrepresentativegovernments,in1764.Thefollowingyear,heintroducedsevenresolutionsagainstGreatBritain'snewtaxonpapertheStampAct.TheStampActof1765(shorttitleDutiesinAmericanColoniesAct1765;5GeorgeIII,c.12)wasadirecttaximposedbytheBritishParliamentspecificallyonthecoloniesofBritishAmerica.Theactr
