4、importancetobuildingtheircitiesintoaninternationalmetropolis,especiallyafterthe29thOlympicGamesin2008andtheWorldExpositionin2010wereheldsuccessfullyinBeijingandShanghairespectively,forwhichagoodembodimentisthetranslationworkofpublicsignsintoEnglish.However,itisdemonst

5、ratedthatproblemsofvariouskindsdetectedinEnglishversionsofChinesepublicsignshaverenderedthetranslationworkfarfrombeingqualified,letalonetofacilitateforeigners’everydayactivitiesandtoimprovetheimagesofChinesecities.Therefore,itisofsignificancetocarryoutresearchesonthev
