2、licationswithhighheat-of-compressiongases,includingnaturalgas,airandhelium(cryogenics).Thecompressorisalowprofilehorizontaldesignwithoil-floodedcoolingofthecompressionprocess.Combinedwithcomponentsrequiredforoilseparationandcooling,thisdesignprovidesasmooth,continuouscompressionprocessfe
3、aturinglownoiseandvibration,andperformancecomparabletoothercommercialoilfloodeddesignssuchasscrewandrotaryvane.Thedesignapproachallowstheuseofaproductionairconditioningcompressorasthebaselinemodelfromwhichmodificationsaremadeforeachspecificuse.Compressoroperatingcharacteristicsandperform
4、ancearediscussedforeachapplication.1.INTRODUCTIONHermeticandsemi-hermeticcompressordesignshavebeenusedtraditionallywithrefrigerantsduetoboththecoolingprovidedbythehighdensityandhighspecificheatgas,andthelowheat-of-compressionassociatedwithtypicalrefrigerants.Thisresultsingascompressionte
5、mperaturesoflessthan150ºCandoilsumptemperatureslessthan100ºC,andmoderateoperatingtemperaturesforthegascooledcompressormotorandmechanicalcomponentssuchasvalvesandbearings.Also,inviewofbothproductperformanceandsimplicityofdesign,hermeticandsemi-hermeticcompressorsareagoodchoiceforrefrigera
6、ntapplications.Forapplicationsinvolvinghighheat-of-compressiongases(highspecificheatratio)suchasair,naturalgasandhelium,compressiontemperaturescanreach200ºCto300ºCwhenpressureratiosareabove4-6.Also,duetothelowdensityandlowspecificheatcharacteristicofthesegases,ahermeticorsemi-hermeticmot
7、ormaynotbeadequatelycooled.Duetoboththesefactors,air-cooledelectricmotorsandopendrivecompressorsarecommonlyusedforaircompression.Typically,thesecompressorsareofamultiplestagereciprocatingtype(withintercoolers)oranoilfloodedscreworrotaryvanecompressorwithbothoilseparationa
