2、izationandasmallrulebasethatcanbeeasilyimplementedinexistingindustrialcontrollerswasproposed.Itwasdemonstratedinbothsoftwaresimulationandhardwaretestinanindustrialsettingthatthefuzzylogiccontroller(FLC)ismuchmorecapablethanthecurrenttemperaturecontroller.Thisincludescompensatingforthermomasscha
3、ngesinthesystem,dealingwithunknownandvariabledelays,operatingatverydifferenttemperaturesetpointswithoutreturningetc.Itisachievedbyimplementing,inFLC,aclassicalcontrolstrategyandanadaptationmechanismtocompensateforthedynamicchangesinthesystem.TheproposedFLCwasappliedtotemperaturecontrolofcontinu
4、ouslystirredtankreactor(CSTR)andsignificantimprovementsinthesystemperformanceareobserved.INTRODUCTIONWhilemoderncontroltheoryhasmademodestinroadintopractice,fuzzylogiccontrolhasbeenrapidlygainingpopularityamongpracticingengineers.Thisincreasedpopularitycanbeattributedtothefactthatfuzzylogiccont
5、rolprovidesapowerfulvehiclethatallowsengineerstoincorporatehumanreasoninginthecontrolalgorithm.Asopposedtomoderncontroltheory,fuzzylogicdesignisnotbasedonthemathematicalmodeloftheprocess.7Thecontrollerdesignedusingfuzzylogicimplementshumanreasoningthathasbeenprogrammedintofuzzylogiclanguage(mem
6、bershipfunctions,ruleandtheruleinterpretation).Itisinterestingtonotethatthesuccessoffuzzylogiccontrolislargelyduetoawarenesstoitsmanyindustrialapplications.Industrialinterestsinfuzzylogiccontrolasevidencedbythemanypublicationsonthesubjectinthecontrolliteraturehavecreatedawarenessofitsincreasing
7、importancebytheacademiccommunity.Theresearchresultsoverthelastfewyearshavebeenreportedin[2-4].Inthispaper,weconcentrateonfuzzylogiccontrolasanalternativecontrolstrategytothecurrentproportion-integral-derivative(PID)methodusedwidel
