3、cmoreawareoftheproblem.Intheend,$100millionwasraised,whichwasusedtobuyfoodandtoprovidehelpwithdevelopmentprojectsinEthiopia.Theconcertalsomadetheheadlinesaroundtheworld,andputgreatpressureonpoliticiansandstatesmentodosomethingabouttheproblemofworldhunger.LiveAidwasin1985,butformanyp
4、eopleinthedevelopingworld,diseaseandpovertyarestillaseriousproblem.AccordingtotheUnitedNations,tenmillionpeopledieeveryyearofstarvationorproblemsrelatedtohavingapoordiet.Infact,hungeristheworld‘snumberonehealthrisk,killingmorepeoplethananydisease.Inwrestlingwiththedilemmaofworldwide
5、hunger,theUnitedNationssetupanagencycalledtheWorldFoodProgramme(WFP)in1963.TheWFPhasorganizedanumberofprogrammes,includingtheFood-for-Lifeprogramme,whichsendsemergencyfoodaidtocountriesduringtimesoftrouble;theFood-for-Growthprogramme,whichtargetspeoplemostatrisk,suchasbabies,pregnan
6、twomenandoldpeople;andtheFood-for-Workprogramme,whichhelpspeoplewithoutjobssupportthemselvesbygivingthemworkandpayingtheminfoodaid.Throughprogrammeslikethese,theWFPhashelpedmorethanonebillionpeoplesinceitwassetup.Thisisbeyonddoubtanamazingachievement,butisitenough?Today,somedevelopi
7、ngcountriesinAfrica,AsiaandSouthAmericastandatacrossroads.Whiletheyareseeinggreatdevelopment,theyarestillpoorerthanmanycountriesinotherpartsoftheworld,andthereisadangerthattheycouldfallfurtherbehinddevelopedcountries.Theyneedhelp,butthesadtruthisthatmerelysendingloavesofbreadisnoten
