3、orhungerreliefandtomakethepublicmoreawareoftheproblem.Intheend,$100millionwasraised,whichwasusedtobuyfoodandtoprovidehelpwithdevelopmentprojectsinEthiopia.Theconcertalsomadetheheadlinesaroundtheworld,andputgreatpressureonpoliticiansandstatesmentodosomethingabouttheproble
4、mofworldhunger.LiveAidwasin1985,butformanypeopleinthedevelopingworld,diseaseandpovertyarestillaseriousproblem.AccordingtotheUnitedNations,tenmillionpeopledieeveryyearofstarvationorproblemsrelatedtohavingapoordiet.Infact,hungeristheworld‘snumberonehealthrisk,killingmorepe
5、oplethananydisease.Inwrestlingwiththedilemmaofworldwidehunger,theUnitedNationssetupanagencycalledtheWorldFoodProgramme(WFP)in1963.TheWFPhasorganizedanumberofprogrammes,includingtheFood-for-Lifeprogramme,whichsendsemergencyfoodaidtocountriesduringtimesoftrouble;theFood-fo
6、r-Growthprogramme,whichtargetspeoplemostatrisk,suchasbabies,pregnantwomenandoldpeople;andtheFood-for-Workprogramme,whichhelpspeoplewithoutjobssupportthemselvesbygivingthemworkandpayingtheminfoodaid.Throughprogrammeslikethese,theWFPhashelpedmorethanonebillionpeoplesinceit
