4、endasetting，andprimingThethreemodelswefocusoninthisissue—framing，agendasetting,andpriming—havereceivedsignificantscholarlyattentionsincetheywereintroduced.Agendasettingreferstotheideathatthereisastrongcorrelationbetweentheemphasisthatmassmediaplaceoncertainissues(e.g”basedonrelativeplacemento

5、ramountofcoverage)andtheimportanceattributedtotheseissuesbymassaudiences(McCombs&Shaw,1972).Asdefinedinthepoliticalcommunicationliterature,Primingrefersto'changesinthestandardsthatpeopleusetomakepoliticalevaluations'(Iyengar&Kinder,1987,p.63).Primingoccurswhennewscontentsuggeststonewsaudience

6、sthattheyoughttousespecificissuesasbenchmarksforevaluatingtheperformanceofleadersandgovernments.Itisoftenunderstoodasanextensionofagendasetting.Therearetworeasonsforthis:(a)Botheffectsarebasedonmemory-basedmodelsofinformationprocessing.Thesemodelsassumethatpeopleformattitudesbasedontheconside

7、rationsthataremostsalient(i.e.，mostaccessible)whentheymakedecisions(Hastie&Park，1986).Inotherwords，judgmentsandattitudeformationaredirectlycorrelatedwith“theeaseinwhichinstancesorassociationscouldbebroughttomind”(Tversky&Kahneman，1973,p.208);
