1、AbstractThefilm,aparticularartwithbothartisticandcommercialvalues,isoneofthemostinfluentialmassmediawithlargequantitiesofEnglishfilmsbeingintroducedintoChina.Thefilmtitle,asanimportantpartofthefilm,isofreferential,expressiveandappellativefunctionsanditstranslationisachallengingjob.Althoughfilmtransl

2、ationhasbeendevelopingquicklyinthepasttwoorthreedecades,filmtitletranslationisafarlessexploredfield.Uptillnow,nosystematicandfeasibletheoryonEnglishfilmtitletranslationhasbeenputforward.Actually,filmtitletranslationisveryproblematicinthatitisinastateofdisunity.Fromtheaspectsofthefunctionsandskoposof

3、filmtitles,theauthormakesananalysisofthetranslationoffilmtitles.Skopostheory,anewlydevelopedtheory,isadoptedasthetheoreticalbackgroundofthisthesisandanaudience-orientedfilmtitletranslationapproachishighlyadvocated.Functionalismshedsnewlightsonthetranslationfield.Itreflectsashiftfromtraditionallingui
