2、ongqiangJiangandLiangZhangAbstractBackground:InfectiousdiseasesemergefrequentlyinChina,partlybecauseofitslargeandhighlymobilepopulation.Therefore,arapidandcost-effectivepathogenscreeningmethodwithbroadcoverageisrequiredforpreventionandcontrolofinfectiousdiseases.Theavailabilityofalargenumberofm
3、icrobialgenomesequencesgeneratedbyconventionalSangersequencingandnextgenerationsequencinghasenabledthedevelopmentofahigh-throughputhigh-densitymicroarrayplatformforrapidlarge-scalescreeningofvertebratepathogens.Methods:Aneasyoperatingpathogenmicroarray(EOPM)wasdesignedtodetectalmostallknownpath
4、ogensandrelatedspeciesbasedontheirgenomicsequences.ForeffectiveidentificationofpathogensfromEOPMdata,astatisticalenrichmentalgorithmhasbeenproposed,andfurtherimplementedinauser-friendlyweb-basedinterface.Results:Usingmultipleprobesdesignedtospecificallydetectamicrobialgenusorspecies,EOPMcancorr
5、ectlyidentifyknownpathogensatthespeciesorgenuslevelinblindedtesting.DespitealowersensitivitythanPCR,EOPMissufficientlysensitivetodetectthepredominantpathogenscausingclinicalsymptoms.DuringapplicationintworecentclinicalinfectiousdiseaseoutbreaksinChina,EOPMsuccessfullyidentifiedtheresponsiblepat
6、hogens.Conclusions:EOPMisaneffectivesurveillanceplatformforinfectiousdiseases,andcanplayanimportantroleininfectiousdiseasecontrol.Backgroundbyaworldwideepidemic.Duringtheepidemic,66%oftheThefrequentinvasionofmicroorganisms,includingvi-SARScaseswerereportedinChina,resultingin349humanruses,bacter
