4、reactivesourcesofcoalminedrainagegenerationwhichseverelycontaminatessoils,surface-andgroundwaterandendangerstheecosystemsofthearea.Inthepresentpaperacompleteenvironmentalcharacterizationresearchiscarriedoutinordertodeterminethecharacteristicsofthewastes,establishtheiracidgenerationpotential,th
5、eleachabilityandbio-availabilityofseveralhazardousconstituentsandpredicttheenvironmentalimpactsatthedis-posalsites.Basedonthisdataaswellasonprocessparametersanddisposalpractices,anevaluationofdesulphurizationtechnologiesiscarriedout.Experimentalstudiesrevealthatthesewastesareconsideredasperman
6、entsourcesofcoalminedrainagegenerationandthereforecauseextensivecontaminationatthedisposalsites.Inaddition,duetoseveraltechnologicalconstraintsofthedesulphurizationtechnologiesandthecharacteristicsofthewastes,thepotentialofinsitudesulphurizationisconsideredlow.Desulphurizationtechnologiespre-s
