2、yofanear-infinitenumberofauthenticmaterials.TheWeboffersexcitingopportunitiesbyemployinghyper-texts,audio,andevenvideo-clipsintolanguagecourses.Theinteractivityofwebsitesalsomakesthelanguagetestingattractive,efficientandeffective.Languagelearnerscandolanguageexerc
3、isesandtestsonline,playlanguagegamestotestandusethelanguage,andmuchmore.Thecomputermediatedcommunication(CMC)makestheinteractionbetweenteachersandstudentssynchronousbytheonlinecollaborativeenvironment.Followingthistrends,thisprojectjusttouchesoneaspectofonlinereso
4、urces,namely,theresourcesforself-assessmentinlanguagetesting.1.1TerminologyRelatedtoSelf-assessmentTheliteralmeaningofself-assessmentisanassessmentdonebysomeonethemselves.Tobemorespecific,itistheprocessthatthelearnersthemselvesevaluatetheirownperformance,usingclea
5、rcriteriaandweightingsystemsagreedonbeforehand(Ur,P.,2000:245).However,therearestillsomecharacteristicsneedtobeclarifiedaccordingtotheliteratureresourcesonthistopic.13Self-assessmentisalsoknownasself-evaluation,self-rating,self-testingandself-appraisal(Davies,etal
6、.2002:177).Itisanapproachtoassessmentwhichinvolveslearnerinmakingjudgementsabouttheirownleveland/orprogress.Moralreasons(e.g.thesharingofpowerbetweenteacherandlearner)aswellasmotivationalones(e.g.theexcitementofself-discovery)areoftenusedtojustifyself-assessmentpr
7、acticesagainsttheaccusationoflackofreliability[whichthisreportwilldealwithinPartThree].Itseemsthattherearelittledifferencesamongstself-assessment,self-evaluation,andself-rating.Instead,therearesomedistinctionsaccordingtootherprofessionalsasfollows(Richards,Schmidt
