2、dependsontheteacher’sexplanation,asaresult,Englishlanguageteaching(ELT)ismoreimportantinthosenon-Englishcountries.ChinesestartedEnglishlearningveryearly.InthetraditionalEnglishclass,mostoftheteachersoccupythecentralpositionandfocusedonhowtomakestudentsgetahighmarkinexaminationratherthanactualco
3、mmunication.Duetothedeepinfluenceoftraditionaleducation,thephenomenathattheteacheractsasthecenterpartoftheclassactivitydidnotcompletelychange.Inmostcases,teacherskeepsayingthewholeclassandthestudentsstudypassively,whichleadstothefactthatstudentslackpowerinEnglishlearningandshortofstudyefficienc
4、y.Thusthereislesscommunicationandinteractiontotallyevenbetweenteachersandstudentsortheinteractionduringstudents.Linguistsproposedalotofrelevanttheories,whichisagreathelptoEnglishlanguageteachingandtheCooperativePrincipleisoneofthem.AmericanlinguistGriceputforwardCooperativePrincipleinthe1960s.T
5、heprinciplewasintroducedintoEnglishlanguageteachingrapidly,andachievedgoodresults.Itplaysagreatpartinbreakingupthetraditionalteachingconcepts.Asanimportanttheoryinpragmatics,thetheoryofCooperativePrinciplewasfirstintroducedtoChinabyHuZhuanglinin1980,andgraduallybecamethemainstreamofstudyofcommu
6、nicationathome.OnthebasisofthetheoryofCooperativePrinciple,thisthesisaimstomakeclearthefollowingtwopoints:First,isitnecessarytointroduceCooperativePrincipleintoEnglishlanguageteaching?Second,HowtoapplyittoELT?Inthisthesis,abriefintroductionismadeatfirsttohelpclarifytheunderstandingofCooperative
