3、eofthebuildingspostoccupancyevaluationswereheldandbuilding’sperformancewasrevealed.AlsointheNetherlandsduringthelastyearsseveralnewconceptsweredevelopedforsustainableschools.Thisisaninterestingtopicasmanyofthoseschoolshadproblemsconcerningenergyefficiency,indoora
4、irqualityandthermalcomfort.Inthecaseofsustainableschoolsmucheffortwentintothedesignprocessoftheschoolstotrytofindbettersolutionstofacetheproblemsofthetraditionaldesigns.Thisresultedindifferentsolutionconcepts,whichraisesthequestionwhicharebetterschoolconcepts.Fro
5、mliteraturethreeevaluationsfromtheUKandoneoverviewof5sustainableeducationalbuildingsfromtheNetherlandsaregiven,whichshowthatsustainableeducationalbuildingsarenotalwayswithoutflaws.InthepapertwoofthefirstDutchsustainableelementaryschoolsarecomparedwith9moretraditi
6、onalschoolsoftheNetherlandstoconcludewhetherthesustainableschoolsperformbetterthantraditionalschools.INTRODUCTIONPresentlysustainabilitybecomesanecessityaseffectsofGlobalwarmingbecomemoreclearly.Itisimportanttostartearlywiththeeducationalaspectsofthenecessarychan
7、geinbehaviorandthinking,sustainableschoolscouldplayanimportantrole.Thewholeconceptofasustainableschoolbuildingisbasedonprinciplesofsustainabledevelopmentwhichdealwiththelimitedavailabilityofnaturalresources,theinterdependencewithnature,thefundamentalsaspectsofint
